Silver Peak Ski Tour

Last week I went with a coworker on a Monday ski tour.  We headed East to Silver Peak.  Driving East on I90, we pulled off the highway at the Hyak exit.  From there we drove south on Hyak Drive East until we hit the dirt road.  We drove about 4.5 miles along the dirt road and parked when snow prevented us from driving any further.

At 11am we left the car and hiked and skinned, following the road another 1.5 mile.  We left the road and headed to cross over the short tree lined ridge so we could get to the next bowl over.

Once on the other side of the ridge, we headed up towards Silver Peak following the natural cirque-like bowl.

We attained the ridge to the northwest of the peak at 12:45pm.  Deciding to forgot the hike and scramble to the summit of Silver Peak, we hung out on the ridge, enjoyed the views, and had lunch for an hour and a half before heading down.

We could see Mount Rainier peeking through the clouds.

The ski descent was quick and we ended up cutting through the clearcut by the road and bushwhacking the last part.  We can now say we hiked 1/12th of a mile along the Pacific Crest Trail!
